Rio de Janeiro

Rio is as colorful and dynamic as it is a platform of concrete where the poverty is rather present. Yesterday we saw the police covering up a dead body on the sidewalk as we were on our way to the only open cash-machine in the area. Makes you think, doesn’t it. We needed the rest of the day to let that sink in. As we move around in different areas we are currently a bit difficult to reach since we’re not carrying our devices for security reasons. Some areas are really nice as well and you feel less unsecure, however – better safe than sorry!

At the moment we are in Lapa which is one of the bar areas with lots of pulsing, vibrant venues. Santa Teresa where we stayed earlier is close located and one of the really nice areas where we felt safe and relaxed. Lapa is nice as well if you avoid the dodgy areas around it.

Today we went to check out the hippiemarket in Ipanema where we found some nice craftsmanship amongst a lot of junk and interesting streetfood. Except from what we experienced yesterday we are doing great and enjoying our time fully. We will be staying in the city for a few more days until we start moving further!

Great to hear from you and see that you are fine. Since the temperature in Sweden today is expected to be below zero in the whole country (-20 in the north) … your photos are even more wonderful to look at and make us warm from the inside… hugs from me and Bengt ❤
