After Costa-Rica we traveled to Nicaragua and reached the island of Ometepe situated on the huge lake Nicaragua. The island is charming, full of flowers and two huge volcano.
People on the island live a simple life in basic houses. Electricity cuts are not uncommon and we had candle dinner already the first night (very cosy, less when a 300g monster cockroach landed on our table). Unfortunately the concept of cooking with no sauces are not well understood there and Christine had an allergic reaction for dinner and the next day for breakfast, luckily nothing too dramatic. We could also find the reason for it: Salsa inglesa, commonly used for cooking in Nicaragua (No salsa we said! Well, next time…).
The allergy phobia and some grumpy old ladies wasted a bit the experience, however we had a great time chilling in on the terrace of the hostel and walking around in this relaxing place.
