Cape Reinga

Our first big destination was the northest point of New Zealand, which to our european perspective, would be to go south (at a latitude which would correspond to Malta). The weather was really nice for spring (which would be April for us), however nothing to compare with Malta but more like Swedish summer.

Cape Reinga is where the Tasmanian sea and the Pacific ocean meet leadind to massive waves and very dramatic currents. This built strong links between this special location and spiritual believes of Maori people. Also despite the usually arsh weather conditions, the landscape is impressively beautiful with huge and deserted beaches, high cliffs and massive sand dunes.

We decided to go for a hike on the coastline, putting on our heavy duty hiking boots. We ended up going more than half the way bearfoot in the sand of the endless beach and sandunne. We definitely loved this place and understood why it was such a good host for spirituality.
