Once Norbert was picked up and after a real feast at Jason’s we left the next day for a tramp up the Gertrude Saddle. It was our second attempt. Earlier in the year when asking for further information at the tourist information they strongly advised us not to go because it was far too risky. Well this time we had Jason as a guide, with Eden on his shoulders, so we left with confidance that it must not be that terrible. Also we had Norbert to carry everyone down in case someone would get hurt.
It was steep, very steep in some places, we had to go through snow, a lot of it and watch out not to fall in snow bridges over rivers, but the effort was definitely worth it! Definitely one of the best day hike we have done so far! It was great up there and the view overlooking the Milford sound valley was the best!
